The National Road Safety Authority (ANSR) launched the 'Back to School' campaign on September 7, 2026, aiming to alert drivers about risks in school vicinities.
The campaign, under the slogan 'No Excuses,' emphasizes the importance of reducing speed and anticipating the unexpected, especially with increased traffic of children and other vulnerable users. ANSR highlights that the probability of a pedestrian accident being fatal drastically increases with speed: from 10% at 30 km/h to 90% at 50 km/h.
Pedro Clemente, president of ANSR, called for increased responsibility from drivers, reminding them that haste should never put a life at risk. The campaign encourages heightened attention, respect for signage, and reduced speed near schools and crosswalks.
