The Madeira Teachers' Union (SPM) has announced a union initiative called "Tribuna da Indignação dos Professores e Educadores" (Teachers' and Educators' Tribune of Indignation). The event is scheduled for September 9th at 11:00 AM, in front of the Regional Education Secretariat on Avenida Arriaga.
The SPM states that this initiative stems from the "growing revolt among teachers" regarding the handling of teacher recruitment processes, which has led to "problems that severely affect the trust, stability, and fairness of the process." The union highlights unclear procedures and situations that precarious the status of permanent teachers while perpetuating precariousness for contract teachers.
Key demands from the SPM include professional grading as the sole criterion in all competitions, permanent status after one year of service, and assurance that there will be no break in employment during the transitional phase until permanent status is achieved. The aim is to denounce the "injustice, opacity, and negative impact" of the recruitment results, demanding a correction to what they deem an unsustainable process.
