Madeira is linked to the predicted meteorological scenario for mainland Portugal on August 12, the date of a solar eclipse. The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) indicates the influence of an anticyclonic region stretching between Northern Europe and the archipelago.
Although the eclipse will be observed in mainland Portugal, where it will be partial across most of the territory and total in Montesinho Natural Park, Madeira falls within the area influenced by this anticyclonic system. For the eclipse period, IPMA forecasts mostly clear or lightly cloudy skies over the continent, which should allow for good observation of the phenomenon.
However, there is approximately a 25% chance of low cloud formation in some coastal areas of the North and Centre. In Madeira, the anticyclone's presence forms part of the meteorological context that will shape the weather evolution in the region and the adjacent Atlantic during these days.
