A 17-year-old girl reported being the victim of a rape during the early hours of Thursday morning on Rua das Fontes, in Funchal.
The young woman received assistance from the Funchal Volunteer Firefighters, and the Public Security Police (PSP) were also dispatched to the scene. PSP Sub-intendent José Catanho confirmed the police were aware of the incident and responded.
The case has since been transferred to the Polícia Judiciária, which has already begun its investigation and interviewed the victim. The circumstances surrounding the alleged events are currently being investigated by the competent authorities.
