The arrival of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner at Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked to a reported visit by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
According to local media reports, the Crown Prince and a wider delegation are expected to visit Madeira later this month. The PSP is reportedly preparing a security operation in connection with the visit, although official details have not been released.
Diário de Notícias da Madeira reported that the Saudi aircraft arrived ahead of the delegation to help prepare for its reception and carry out tests at the airport. The newspaper said the Crown Prince intends to visit the birthplace of Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.
The Boeing 787 attracted considerable attention from aircraft spotters and members of the public, becoming the first Dreamliner of its type reported to have landed in Madeira. The aircraft subsequently carried out a second landing as part of the reported airport preparations.
