Cafes at Funchal's Farmers' Market Operate Without Restrooms on Weekends

Establishments like CICA and Café Heritage at Funchal's Farmers' Market lack restroom access when the market is closed.

The CICA cafeteria and Café Heritage, located at the entrance of Funchal's Farmers' Market, face a significant operational issue: a lack of access to sanitary facilities during periods when the market is closed.

This situation occurs on Saturday afternoons, Sundays, and public holidays. As these establishments rely on the municipal market's infrastructure, their customers are left without restrooms when the market closes, which contravenes Portuguese legislation for the restaurant sector, requiring dedicated and operational sanitary facilities.

The Regional Authority for Economic Activities (ARAE) is responsible for overseeing and enforcing hygiene and operational requirements in catering establishments.
