The Municipality of Câmara de Lobos on Thursday morning cleared a public domain area near Vigário Beach that had been permanently occupied for over three years.
The operation removed a significant amount of waste, returning the space for public use. The site had been used by drug-dependent individuals and homeless people, compromising safety, sanitation, and the free use of the area.
Mayor Celso Bettencourt stated the decision was not hasty and that the municipality sought solutions, but abusive occupation and waste accumulation cannot continue. The council will remain vigilant against new occupations and cooperate with relevant entities on social responses.
