The intervention at the Caniço (Cancela) junction is expected to be fully completed in October, announced Miguel Albuquerque during a site visit.
The project includes the construction of two roundabouts, the widening of the deck over approximately 150 meters, and the transformation of the exit into a two-lane road. The President of the Regional Government believes the new configuration will increase traffic flow and improve vehicle management in an area subject to heavy road pressure.
Albuquerque highlighted the technical complexity of the intervention, particularly the need to widen an reinforced concrete bridge without compromising its stability or interrupting traffic, describing it as an "unprecedented" intervention in Portugal. The Regional Government is also considering extending the continuous white line to regulate exits and enhance safety.
