The Funchal City Council approved the Carmo Detailed Plan during a council meeting. The process began in 2014, and the document will now proceed to the Municipal Assembly.
The plan focuses on the urban requalification of this central city area, including interventions in public spaces, streets, and accessibility. It also aims to create conditions for building rehabilitation and new housing construction, with a key feature being reduced public space density.
Approximately 1.4 million euros in municipal investment and 13 million euros in private investment are projected. Vice-president Carlos Rodrigues also highlighted potential new urban development operations in the Rua do Frigorífico and Rua da Fábrica areas.
