The Casa do Povo de Santo António will launch a housing cooperative, as announced by Eduardo Baptista, president of the institution. The announcement was made during the inauguration of the Lar dos Afectos, an event that also marked the 90th anniversary celebrations of the Casa do Povo.
Baptista highlighted the growth in the institution's activities, which currently serves over 500 people monthly. He also recalled the financial difficulties overcome in the last 12 years, mentioning that the Casa do Povo's accumulated debt exceeded 200,000 euros when he took over leadership, but by 2025 the situation was practically resolved.
Regarding the new Lar dos Afectos, Eduardo Baptista emphasized the investment in modern technology and equipment, but stressed that humanization is the primary feature of the residential facility for the elderly.
