CDS-PP deputy in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, Sara Madalena, has presented a motion to congratulate athlete Ivone Silva, from Canhas, Ponta do Sol. The young pilot won the Junior World Paragliding Championship title in Kruševo, North Macedonia, between August 22-30, 2026, at the 2nd FAI Junior World Championship.
Representing the Jardim da Serra Cultural and Sports Association, Ivone Silva stood out for her consistency, leading the junior women's competition from the second round. She accumulated 2,778.9 points, securing a lead of 135.8 points over the runner-up. In the absolute overall standings, she achieved 25th place.
The parliamentary document highlights the athlete's "meteoric rise," having started competing in 2024 and already becoming the National Women's Paragliding Champion in 2026, the first from Madeira to achieve this title. The motion also emphasizes her "human dimension and example of overcoming adversity," noting that Silva recovered from a hip fracture in May 2026, which kept her away from the sport for two months before her return and subsequent national and world titles.
