The CDU brought two groups of residents to the public meeting of the Funchal Municipal Council to press for two roads it says are vital for access in the upland areas.
The demands concern a road in Ribeiro Lavadouro, in the Santo António parish, and Rua do Cabeço de Ferro, in Santa Maria Maior parish, problems the party says have lasted for many years.
The council acknowledged the Ribeiro Lavadouro request as valid and said the project will move forward, but it is not yet included in the budget. On Rua do Cabeço de Ferro, councillors said the access road cannot be built, a position the CDU called unacceptable.
