Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) has issued a new warning to its clients about an increase in fraudulent SMS messages impersonating the bank.
The goal of these criminal activities is to trick victims into revealing personal data, authentication codes, or performing banking operations under the guidance of fraudsters. This practice, known as 'smishing', uses messages that appear legitimate and often appear within the same SMS conversation thread as genuine communications from the financial institution.
CGD advises clients not to click on suspicious links, share authentication codes or card details, be wary of urgent messages, and only use the bank's official channels for contact. The bank reiterates that it never sends security links via SMS or email, nor does it request sensitive information by phone or message.
