The leader of Chega in Madeira, Hugo Nunes, stated that the party aims to "break" with "decades of fear" on the island. In a weekly political address, Nunes criticized the "differences between the golden bubble of Quinta Vigia and the lives of those who work".
The CH rejects the notion that support and investments, even with European funds, are "handouts" to Madeirans, particularly in housing. Hugo Nunes argued that Autonomy belongs to the Madeirans, not the PSD, and criticized the "propaganda of the perfect system" and subsidies that, he claims, keep the population "on a short leash".
Nunes also denounced "nepotism, fear-mongering, and political persecution of protesters," assuring that his party seeks "justice and dignity" instead of "handouts." He also mentioned legal cases that "shame" the Region and could hinder its development before the end of the legislative term.
