CHEGA denounces parking difficulties for people with disabilities in Funchal

CHEGA councilor in Funchal's Municipal Assembly, Luís Filipe Santos, deems it unacceptable that people with disabilities continue to face parking challenges in the city and are fined when reserved spots are unavailable.

This issue, previously flagged by the CHEGA Municipal Group and the Associação Sem Limites, remains a concern, particularly with reports of fines issued to holders of disability parking cards.

Luís Filipe Santos will formally submit a request at the upcoming Municipal Assembly meeting, demanding full compliance with national legislation on reserved parking and seeking clarification on fines, insufficient reserved spaces, and the Municipality's planned measures for accessibility. He also advocates for a municipal scheme allowing valid cardholders two hours of free parking in metered spots when reserved spaces are occupied.
