The Chega Madeira Parliamentary Group has raised concerns about the effects of the recent heatwave on the island, with particular worry regarding Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.
According to the party, a persistent malfunction in the hospital's air conditioning system, which has been ongoing for three years, is affecting various clinical practice services, laboratories, and administrative departments. Chega Madeira described the situation as "chaotic," leading to "the cancellation of non-urgent clinical procedures, appointments, laboratory tests, and administrative acts."
The party criticized the hospital's Board of Directors, deeming them "incompetent and negligent" and questioning their impact on the well-being of patients and staff. Chega Madeira stated they will continue to monitor the issue and take action through available channels in the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (ALRAM).
