Chega Member of Parliament Francisco Gomes has accused the Regional Command of the PSP-Madeira (Public Security Police) of incompetence.
According to the MP, the Madeiran police force is allegedly sacrificing community policing and road patrols to deploy officers for paid services at parties and festivals. Gomes claims this situation is causing an overload for officers, leading to shift changes, loss of days off, and impacts on their family lives.
As an example, the MP cited August 22nd, stating that only four officers were allegedly on duty to cover four municipalities (Câmara de Lobos, Ribeira Brava, Ponta do Sol, and Calheta) during one shift, while other officers were engaged in paid event duties. Chega believes the situation requires immediate clarification and calls for the National Directorate of the PSP to investigate, criticizing the Regional Command's actions as "incompetence, disorientation, and complacency."
