A two-day strike initiated by childcare assistants in Madeira has resulted in the closure of 17 educational establishments. According to updated data from the Regional Secretariat for Education, Science and Technology, participation in the work stoppage reached 62%, covering both morning and afternoon shifts.
In the morning, the Secretariat reported 60% participation, while the Union of Workers in Public and Social Functions of the South and Autonomous Regions (STFPSSRA) indicated 95%. The strike impacted the operation of several schools, causing total or partial closures due to insufficient staff to ensure essential services.
On the morning of the strike, 16 schools were closed. In the afternoon, this number rose to 17, with the closure of two additional facilities. Furthermore, another 13 schools experienced disruptions, remaining partially affected.
