Cristiano Ronaldo's Wedding Causes Confusion in Funchal with 2,000 Fans Waiting

Thousands of fans waited in Funchal for a wedding that did not happen, as the couple married in Cascais.

Approximately 2,000 fans gathered at Funchal Cathedral in Madeira, believing they were about to witness the wedding of Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez. However, the couple secretly married in Cascais, near Lisbon, days before Ronaldo's club season began.

Previous reports had pointed to Madeira as the wedding setting, with local outlet Jornal da Madeira naming Funchal Cathedral as the venue. The island is Ronaldo's birthplace, adding to fan expectations.

The confusion in Madeira led to a local couple, Fábio Ramos and Fátima Nicole Cunha Teixeira, having their wedding ceremony overshadowed by the crowd of Ronaldo admirers. The cathedral's priest had to intervene to clarify there was no secret ceremony involving the footballer.

News of the marriage only became public when Ronaldo and Rodríguez shared a joint photo on Instagram, showcasing their new wedding bands. Ronaldo himself briefly commented on the mix-up with laughing emojis.
