The report, published on August 13, 2016, captured scenes of devastation alongside stories of resilience and solidarity. Residents shared accounts of significant losses, with some left with "the clothes on their back," while others celebrated miraculously saved homes.
Preliminary data from the Municipal Chamber identified Santa Luzia and Monte as the most affected parishes. The fires ultimately caused three fatalities and displaced over a thousand people, marking one of the most difficult periods in Madeira's recent history.
