Hundreds of residents and tourists in Madeira took advantage of yesterday's late afternoon to observe the solar eclipse, one of the most notable astronomical phenomena in the region in recent years.
High locations with good visibility, such as Pico do Areeiro and Ponta do Pargo, were favored for watching the moment the Moon covered approximately 73% of the solar disk. Observers used special glasses, telescopes with solar filters, and homemade projectors to ensure safety during viewing.
At the Funchal Observatory and Astronomy Park, the Madeira Astronomy and Astrophotography Association provided equipment. At Ponta do Pargo, the large public turnout caused some congestion near the lighthouse.
