Machico Forum hosted the 4th edition of the ECOS Machico Conference, organized by the Machico Municipal Chamber and the Insular Association of Geography (AIG). The event, held on October 16th, focused on the theme 'Technology and Artificial Intelligence in the Territory: Challenges and Opportunities'.
Experts and institutional representatives gathered to discuss how technology and AI can contribute to the knowledge, monitoring, valuation, and sustainable management of the territory. The conference aimed to promote the sharing of innovative experiences and solutions applicable at regional and national levels.
Dr. Leónia Nunes presented 'Valuing and Quantifying the Environmental Benefits of Urban Trees,' highlighting the importance of urban forests for city sustainability and climate change mitigation. Ilídio Sousa, from the Regional Directorate of Territorial Planning, discussed the potential of technology and AI to improve territorial knowledge and public entities' response capacity. Nuno Serralha, from IFCN, spoke about digital transformation in forest management in the RAM.
