The travelling exhibition "Madeira and the European Union" was inaugurated in Largo do Município, Funchal, commemorating 40 years since the Region's accession to the European Union.
The initiative, organized by Madeiran MEP Sérgio Gonçalves, was attended by the president of the Association of Municipalities of Madeira and the Funchal City Council, Jorge Carvalho. Carvalho highlighted the exhibition's significance, coinciding with Madeira's celebration of 50 years of Autonomy, emphasizing that both processes were vital for the region's current development.
The exhibition aims to show younger generations the reality of Madeira four decades ago and demonstrate the impact of European integration across various sectors, including infrastructure, health, education, and social policies. The exhibition will tour the Region's 11 municipalities over the course of a year.
