Five people were injured and three light vehicles sustained considerable damage following a road collision this afternoon on the highway, in the Santa Cruz-Machico direction, in the area below Madeira Airport, in Água de Pena.
Two of the victims, aged in their 60s and 70s, had to be extricated from their vehicles. The severity of their injuries is not yet known.
The accident occurred at 3:40 PM, with the EMIR and the Santa Cruz Fire Brigade dispatched to the scene with a total of 13 personnel and five vehicles. The PSP was also present, causing significant traffic congestion on the expressway.
