The 27th edition of the 'Funchal Cidade Florida 2026' competition honored 21 of the 41 entrants during a ceremony held at Santa Catarina Park in Funchal.
The event distributed a total of 7,200 euros in prizes across six categories, including urban gardens, social housing gardens, hotels, single-family gardens, and balconies. The initiative aims to acknowledge and value the work of those who help make Funchal a more floral, colorful, and nature-connected city.
Councilwoman Paula Jardim highlighted the significance of recognizing participants who have sustained this work for years, "giving life, soul, and color to our city." Maria José Oliveira Freitas, a winner in the balconies, counters, terraces, and stairways category, shared her joy at being recognized, emphasizing her pleasure in tending to plants and contributing to the city's aesthetic.
