Funchal City Council hosts chestnut festival for pupils at Eleutério de Aguiar school

The council held a Magusto at the school, with roasted chestnuts and a traditional bonfire jump, in partnership with the A Biqueira association.

Funchal City Council held a Magusto, a traditional chestnut festival, at the Professor Eleutério de Aguiar School on Thursday, 29 October. The event, part of the SEMEAR food strategy, was run with the association Atremar a Ilha, known as A Biqueira.

Children watched the chestnuts being prepared and tasted them roasted, linking food with the passing on of customs between generations. The programme also included the traditional bonfire jump, supervised by Funchal's Sapper Firefighters for everyone's safety.

Councillor Helena Leal, responsible for Education and Health, attended and stressed the municipality's commitment to preserving the island's cultural heritage and traditions.
