The Funchal City Council, through SocioHabitaFunchal, held the traditional Mass for the Elderly on 28 October at the Igreja do Colégio. More than 400 people attended the event, part of the commemorations of the World Day of Older Persons and the municipal company's Senior Month.
Under the theme “The Path”, the celebration focused on life journeys, experiences and memories of the city's senior population and recognised their contribution to the community. The programme opened with music in Praça do Município and included a poem by Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen as a call for peace.
Councillor Helena Leal, SocioHabitaFunchal administrator Graça Correia and regional director Graça Moniz attended, and choirs from community centres took part.
