The Funchal Municipal Assembly Board visited the Xarabanda Cultural and Musical Association in São Pedro as part of the 'Proximity Assembly' project. During the visit, which took place during 'O Enseada - Funchal Arts Festival 2026', the association's work in collecting and preserving Madeira's musical heritage was highlighted.
Municipal Assembly President José Luís Nunes emphasized Xarabanda's importance as 'one of the main contributors to the collection and preservation of the Region's musical heritage,' calling the release of a seven-volume collection on traditional Madeiran music 'extraordinary work.' The visit also allowed for an understanding of the association's goals in preserving, disseminating, and recreating Madeiran culture and identity.
José Luís Nunes also stressed the role of cultural institutions and the municipality in supporting associative activities, considering the 'largest annual investment by the City Council in cultural associations' in Funchal as an 'example' of the municipal deputies' work. The next decentralized session of the Funchal Municipal Assembly will be held on September 30th in the parish of São Pedro.
