The second edition of ENSEADA - Funchal Arts Festival, funded by the European Union with an investment of 197,000 euros, is taking place until today, the 19th. The festival aims to enhance the city's cultural offerings and foster interaction between artists, cultural institutions, and audiences.
However, the initiative has faced criticism for planning shortcomings. Folkloric groups performed in locations such as Praça Amarela, Avenida Arriaga, and Rua da Carreira early in the morning, before shops opened and with streets largely empty.
This situation has raised questions about the event's cultural and economic return, leading to a feeling of "public money poorly spent." The criticism suggests that performances before small crowds can lead to demotivation and devalue the efforts of folkloric artists, who deserve "full squares and worthy stages."
