Funchal's Municipal Police will operate with limited powers when it is implemented in 2028. This decision follows Funchal's abandonment of the models used in Lisbon and Porto, citing a lack of cooperation from the Republic's government.
The new police force is expected to handle duties related to traffic, security, and surveillance. However, for more serious incidents, such as accidents, they will need to call upon the PSP (Public Security Police).
