An extensive traffic jam, with a double queue stretching over 4 kilometers, formed this morning on the Via Rápida, in the direction from Machico to Ribeira Brava.
According to Via Litoral, heavy traffic was the cause of the slowdown, which began in the Marmeleiros tunnel and extended to the Boa Nova area. The situation, considered infrequent for the summer and school holiday period, rapidly worsened within minutes.
The congested flow of vehicles caused significant disruption to those caught in the queue.
