Iniciativa Liberal (IL) has expressed concern regarding the state of degradation of tourist infrastructure and spaces in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The party warns that the island risks compromising the quality of its main economic activity, particularly as signs of a slowdown in demand and a reduction in bookings emerge.
IL reports receiving accounts of poor maintenance in pedestrian trails, forest areas, viewpoints, and picnic spots, as well as inadequate access and safety conditions on popular routes and tourist sites. The party contrasts this reality with the significant revenue generated from tourist usage fees, which were intended to boost investment in preservation and maintenance.
Deputy Gonçalo Maia Camelo questions the allocation of these funds, suggesting they might be used for the Regional Government's current expenses rather than direct investments to improve the tourist experience. IL pledges to continue monitoring investments and demand trends.
