Injured Sea Turtle Rescued at Reis Magos Beach

A diving team from the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters conducted a rescue operation for an injured sea turtle at Reis Magos Beach in Caniço on Thursday morning.

The turtle had reportedly been seen in the area on several occasions in recent days and was believed to be injured. After being spotted again on Thursday morning, the Santa Cruz Volunteer Firefighters were called to the beach and notified the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN).

The IFCN subsequently requested assistance from the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters, who deployed a four-person diving team to help locate and rescue the animal. Before entering the water, the divers received guidance from specialists at the Funchal Marine Biology Station on how to approach and handle the turtle safely. The animal will be monitored by IFCN staff and provided with any necessary care.
