At least 60 nurses from the Polyvalent Intensive Care Unit (UCIP) of the Regional Health Service (SESARAM) have again submitted a request for release from responsibility. This decision stems from an alleged shortage of professionals to ensure safe staffing levels for adequate patient care.
A similar request was made in July, highlighting the same deficiencies. Reports indicate that the UCIP has operated in some shifts with only nine nurses, falling short of the ideal twelve. The Order of Nurses confirmed that approximately sixty professionals have individually submitted their resignation requests.
The Order of Nurses met with SESARAM's Board of Directors and the Regional Secretariat for Health to find solutions, but the situation worsened in August due to holidays and other absences. Assurance has been given that new nurses will start working at SESARAM next month, though only about 50 are expected to join, as others are already employed. The Order advocates for a phased recruitment plan, acknowledging that other departments also face staffing issues.
