An Italian tourist was rescued this afternoon after falling approximately ten metres while walking along the Ponta de São Lourenço trail in Machico.
The Machico Municipal Firefighters were en route when informed that the rescue would be handled by the Regional Civil Protection helicopter and its Search and Rescue (SAR) team.
The woman, who sustained head injuries, was located, stabilized, and winched to safety. She was then flown to the Cancela heliport, where an EMIR medical team and an ambulance were waiting. She was subsequently transported to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.
