The JPP party presented a motion of regret in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira following the death of Madeiran writer, poet, and journalist José Viale Moutinho.
The JPP highlighted the legacy Viale Moutinho leaves to Portuguese literature and culture, recalling a career distinguished by several awards. Among the accolades received were the Prémio Júlio Pereira de Matos (1978), the Prémio Rosália de Castro (2012), and the Grande Prémio de Literatura DST (2024) for his poetic work "Desaparecimento Progressivo".
JPP leader Élvio Sousa described reading Viale Moutinho's work as "an act of freedom and gratitude," praising his sense of humor and the seriousness with which he approached literature. The motion of regret concludes with condolences to the writer's family.
