The sole JPP deputy, Filipe Sousa, requested government measures to protect families who do not benefit from the IRS reduction because they already do not pay the tax. During a debate in the Assembly of the Republic, Sousa argued that the State Budget for 2027 should improve the financial conditions of Portuguese citizens facing the cost of living.
Sousa lamented the lack of references in the State Budget to crucial areas for island residents, such as air and maritime transport. He questioned the prime minister about the regulation of the territorial continuity law and the implementation of the ferry line between the mainland and Madeira.
Additionally, the deputy called for greater rigor in public spending and strict scrutiny of major contracts, including public-private partnerships and energy sector rents, to generate savings that can mitigate the cost of living.
