The Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party advocates for increased autonomy and resources for RTP Madeira and RTP Açores, proposing stronger regional centers capable of producing their own content.
MP Filipe Sousa has presented a Draft Resolution to the Assembly of the Republic recommending the government enhance the regional dimension of public media services, bolstering the human, technical, and financial conditions of the regional broadcasters. JPP argues these centers should not be treated as secondary structures but as integral parts of the national public service with a fundamental mission for the populations and the diaspora.
The initiative aims to ensure RTP Madeira and RTP Açores possess "true decision-making capacity, adequate resources, and conditions to develop, produce, and enrich their own content," combating an "excessively centralized view of the country." The proposal also recommends annual disclosure of information on regional center resources and addressing deficiencies in personnel, technical, and financial means.
