JSD Santana has expressed strong disagreement with the Santana Municipal Chamber's project for an underground parking lot near the local church, budgeted at 4.5 million euros for just 32 spaces.
According to JSD, each space would cost over 140,000 euros, enough to build more than 20 affordable housing units. The organization criticized the decision, especially as the Mayor admitted to never having initiated a project of this scale, and given Santana's significant population decline.
JSD argues that the 4.5 million euros represent about 40% of the 2026 Municipal Budget and more than double the planned investment for the year. They suggested alternatives like using surrounding land, which would be more economical and aid urban expansion. The organization also raised concerns about the future of the Santana Municipal Band's headquarters and the apparent priority given to parking over affordable housing for young people, despite the Mayor's statements on prioritizing housing.
