The Judicial Police (PJ) has issued a warning about a new type of tax fraud. Criminals are sending fraudulent communications in the name of the Tax and Customs Authority (AT), promising tax refunds.
These communications exploit the expectation that taxpayers will receive money. The fraudulent emails use subjects like "2025 Refund Approved" and mention high amounts to be received, such as €7,989.00 or €3,936.00. They also create a sense of urgency, stating that the amount will be credited within a few business days after "authentication" and "verification" of data, or threaten temporary suspension if not completed within 7 days.
The PJ advises citizens to ignore these communications, not to follow any links, and not to provide any data. They recommend always consulting the official source, the Tax and Customs Authority, and reporting these scam attempts to help reduce their scope.
