Madeiran author Judite Canha Fernandes has been selected as a semi-finalist for the Oceanos Prize with her book "O Mel sem Abelhas". Born in Madeira, Fernandes moved to São Miguel at a young age and currently resides on the mainland.

Fernandes has an extensive portfolio of published works, including poetry, fiction, and plays. "O Mel sem Abelhas" previously earned her the Edmundo de Bettencourt prize in 2024. She also received an honorable mention at the Ferreira de Castro Literary Prize in 2021 and the Agustina Bessa Luís Prize in 2020 for her novel "Um Passo para Sul", which was also a semi-finalist for the Oceanos Prize.
