A forest fire of considerable size is active in the Socorro area, in Carvalhal, Canhas, in the parish of Ponta do Sol.
The flames broke out in a location far from the road, making firefighting operations difficult.
Firefighters involved in the operation include volunteers from Ribeira Brava and Ponta do Sol, volunteers from Calheta, and the fire brigade from Funchal.
