Machico is hosting the third edition of the Madeira Backyard Ultra, taking place today, October 10, 2026. The event introduces the Extreme format, promising an even greater challenge for participants in terms of physical and mental demands.
The race starts at 9 AM near the Ludens headquarters in the Marina. Each lap will cover 6.706 meters with approximately 400 meters of positive elevation gain. Athletes have less than an hour to complete each lap and return to the starting point for the beginning of the next one. The competition will continue as long as participants are able to complete the course.
The route includes a climb to Pico do Facho and passes by Miradouro Paraíso, offering views of Machico Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The organizers highlight the accumulated elevation gain per lap as a national differentiator. The event is organized by Clube Escola do Estreito – Madeira, in partnership with the Machico Municipal Council, and has 150 available spots.
