Madeira advocates for energy regulation adapted to island status with ERSE

The Regional Government of Madeira argued on Thursday with the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE) for the need to adapt energy regulation to the island's specificities.

The position was conveyed by the Regional Secretary for Equipment and Infrastructure, Pedro Rodrigues, during a meeting with ERSE's Board of Directors. The meeting addressed the challenges of the regional energy sector, including investments, grid modernization, and the transition to renewable energy sources.

Rodrigues emphasized the importance of a regulatory framework tailored to the island reality, focusing on strengthening infrastructure and modernizing the electrical system. The energy transition, including increasing renewable production and developing storage solutions, was also discussed.

The official called for continuous dialogue with ERSE to anticipate constraints and ensure that Madeira's specific needs are taken into account in regulatory decisions.
