This morning, Monday, July 6th, Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo experienced signs of strain as incoming flights created massive queues at passport control, following the arrival of several flights from the United Kingdom.
Passenger reports indicated that the congestion resulted in many travellers having to stand in the sun for over half an hour, with queues extending outside the airport infrastructure. It was also noted that there were no separate queues for residents, nationals, or EU citizens, affecting all passengers.
Between 10:00 AM and midday, flights arrived from Manchester, two from Bristol, as well as connections from Birmingham, London, and Liverpool. The PSP has reinforced border control with new specialised agents who began a two-week operational training camp today.
Social media commentary has raised concerns about whether tourists will continue to choose Madeira if the airport is prone to delays and adverse weather conditions.
