The Pain Unit of Madeira's Regional Health Service (SESARAM) has performed a pioneering procedure using a high-density percutaneous electrode to treat patients with chronic pain.
This procedure, carried out for the first time at Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, combines the electrode with an advanced spinal cord stimulation system. According to SESARAM, it is the first and only 16-contact percutaneous electrode capable of spanning three vertebral levels with reduced spacing between contacts.
The technology, developed for spinal cord stimulation therapy, gives doctors greater flexibility to personalize treatment according to each patient’s needs. SESARAM described the procedure as another highly specialized treatment option now available in Madeira.
