A 19-year-old woman was injured this afternoon after being swept away by a wave at Praia Formosa beach in Funchal.
The young woman suffered some abrasions to her body and was assisted by the Funchal Fire Brigade, who were mobilized to the scene. After receiving pre-hospital care, she was transported to the hospital for medical evaluation.
Praia Formosa is known for its sometimes hazardous conditions, including strong currents and a rapidly deepening seabed, which can make swimming risky, especially with swell.
