SESARAM Performs Innovative Procedure for Chronic Pain Treatment

The Pain Unit of the Regional Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (SESARAM) has advanced chronic pain treatment by performing an unprecedented procedure at Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.

A high-density percutaneous electrode, the first and only one with 16 contacts covering three vertebral levels with reduced spacing, was used in conjunction with an advanced spinal cord stimulation system. This equipment allows for greater personalization of treatment, adapting it to the individual needs of each patient.

This innovation represents a significant advancement in healthcare in Madeira, expanding access to cutting-edge therapies. The intervention was carried out by a multidisciplinary team led by doctors Duarte Correia and Teresa Ferreira, ensuring that innovation and specialized care reach all patients with chronic pain.
