The Autonomous Region of Madeira hosted an international research mission from September 2nd to 8th as part of NERO – European Network on Extreme Fire Behaviour. A group of four researchers from various nationalities collaborated closely with the Regional Civil Protection Service (SRPC, IP-RAM), focusing on the Support Nucleus for Decision-Making and Integrated Risk Analysis (NADAIR).
During their stay, the researchers engaged with the operational structures, procedures, and tools of the SRPC, IP-RAM. Their work involved analyzing real wildfire cases and developing technological solutions to enhance data collection and analysis. This collaboration aims to bridge scientific research with operational application, comparing methodologies against the specific challenges presented by Madeira's complex terrain and weather conditions.
The initiative aligns with the strategic vision of SRPC, IP-RAM to bolster anticipation and response capabilities for wildfires, emphasizing innovation, technical qualification, and international scientific cooperation.
