Madeira has recorded around 13 tuberculosis cases since the start of the year, including four recently reported in Câmara de Lobos. The Regional Health Authority says the figures remain within the usual range.
At a press conference at the Bom Jesus Health Centre, Susana Gonçalves of the authority said about 65 cases had been diagnosed on the island between 2020 and 2026. She said this year's figures do not represent an unusual increase.
The four patients in Câmara de Lobos are Madeiran, aged 30 to 50, have pulmonary tuberculosis and are being monitored; they are no longer infectious. Three belong to the same family. Health teams are assessing contacts to determine who needs screening, and anyone contacted is urged to attend recommended examinations and follow prescribed treatment. The epidemiological investigation is continuing.
